Apple’s latest OLED iPad Pro Models Set to Come with Sky-High Price Tags



Apple’s highly anticipated OLED iPad Pro models, set to debut in 2024, may come with considerably higher price tags.

If the report is accurate, the new iPad Pro could be more expensive than some MacBook Pros currently on sale. While it’s unclear what features these new iPads will offer, early speculation suggests that the increased cost may be due to the advanced OLED technology and improved specifications that will set them apart from current models. Despite the potential for higher prices, Apple fans are eagerly awaiting the launch of these new devices, which are expected to deliver cutting-edge performance and stunning visuals.

The 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro:

Industry sources have reportedly revealed to The Elec that Apple is currently weighing its pricing options for the upcoming 2024 OLED iPad Pro models, and the figures are raising eyebrows. Initial estimates suggest that the 11-inch and 13-inch models could come with a hefty price tag of $1,500 and $1,800, respectively. While this pricing strategy may seem ambitious, it could be reflective of the significant advancements in OLED technology and performance that Apple plans to incorporate into the new models.

According to industry sources, the 11-inch model could start at $1,500, representing an over 80% increase in price compared to the current 11-inch iPad Pro with an LED Liquid Retina display starting at $799. The 13-inch model could start at $1,800, which is over 60% more expensive than the current 12.9-inch iPad Pro with mini-LED Liquid Retina XDR display, which starts at $1,099.

Even some of the currently available MacBook Pro models cost more than the OLED price estimates. For instance, the starting price for a 13.6-inch MacBook Air with an M2 chip is $1,199, while the starting price for a 13-inch MacBook Pro with an M2 chip is $1,299.

The industry’s reaction to the price increases is split, according to the Korean-language report: Some see them as a reasonable increase given the switch to superior OLED technology that will draw in Apple’s devoted customer base, while others think it will be difficult to maintain sales because iPads don’t have the same replacement demand as iPhones.

While these prices would make the new iPads more expensive than many of their predecessors, it’s important to note that Apple has a track record of delivering premium products that are well worth the investment.

Reportedly, the significant rise in cost for Apple’s new OLED iPad Pro models is attributed to the high material costs involved in procuring the OLED panels. The company is in talks with Samsung and LG Display regarding the supply and specifications of the panels, which require the use of new production processes.

As per The Elec, the cost of OLED panels for 10-inch handsets now on the market is between $100 and $150, however, the costs associated with producing Apple’s necessary 11-inch and 13-inch panels may be closer to $270 and $350, respectively while the price of 16-inch Ultra is speculated to be around $1286.

According to the research, future OLED iPad Pro price predictions from the market could differ. The OLED panels that LG and Samsung are expected to supply are still in the development phase, thus the panel pricing has not been finalised.

Samsung, LG, and BOE, the panel manufacturers, are said to be concerned about how Apple’s OLED iPad Pro costs and shipment projections may have a detrimental impact on profitability and the investment in production lines. Eighth-generation OLED production lines, which Samsung is planning to invest in, should “theoretically” result in less expensive panels, but they have already been reserved for Apple’s upcoming OLED MacBooks, which are also anticipated to make their debut in 2024.
