The first look of Apple Vision Pro, the long-awaited Mixed Reality headset by Apple is finally revealed, here is everything you need to know.

After years of development and numerous iterations, Apple’s highly anticipated headset is finally on the horizon. The Apple Vision Pro is an advanced augmented reality headset that seamlessly merges the physical and digital realms. This groundbreaking product, described by CEO Tim Cook as the first Apple device to be looked through rather than at, takes the form of a sleek pair of ski goggles. As previously speculated, the headset incorporates an independent battery pack and offers multiple modes of control, including eye tracking, hand gestures, and voice commands. Priced at $3,499, the Apple Vision Pro is set to be released early next year, initially targeting the US market before expanding to other countries throughout the year.

Despite entering a market that has yet to fully take off, industry insiders have commended CEO Tim Cook’s signature addition to the Apple product lineup. While Meta’s successful Quest 2 headset poses as its primary competition, the reception to their Quest Pro remains more varied. While primarily designed as an augmented reality device, the Vision Pro also provides the versatility to switch between augmented and full virtual reality experiences using a convenient dial.

Powered by VisionOS

Apple Vision Pro offers a revolutionary controller-free experience, allowing users to effortlessly navigate through a range of app icons using a new operating system known as visionOS. By simply directing their gaze at the desired app icon, users can browse through rows of applications. The intuitive interface enables seamless interaction, with options to tap for selection and flick for scrolling. Furthermore, the device incorporates voice command capabilities, empowering users to control various functions through vocal instructions. Apple assures users that the vast majority of familiar iPhone and iPad apps will seamlessly adapt to this novel interaction method.

In addition to its innovative interface, the headset is equipped with Bluetooth compatibility, enabling seamless integration with various accessories such as the Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad. Moreover, users have the option to connect their Mac devices to the headset, expanding its functionality and allowing for a more immersive experience. The headset incorporates downward-facing cameras that possess the capability to accurately capture hand movements, even when the user’s hands are positioned low on their body.

Design and Features

The headset showcases a sleek design, featuring a glass front and a sturdy aluminum frame. Apple has integrated advanced technology into the device, equipping it with five sensors, along with a remarkable array of 12 cameras. Each eye benefits from a dedicated 4K display, ensuring a visually immersive experience. To maintain optimal performance, the headset incorporates a cooling system that effectively dissipates heat with the assistance of a fan.

When it comes to comfort and adaptability, Apple introduces a thoughtfully designed headset mask, referred to as the “Light Seal,” and a flexible modular strap, known as the “Head Band.” Both components are lined with soft cloth materials, and Apple emphasizes their ability to conform to various face shapes and head sizes. The ribbed Head Band elegantly wraps around the back of the user’s head, offering a secure and comfortable fit. Furthermore, users have the option to interchange between different sizes and styles of bands to suit their preferences.

Recognizing the needs of individuals who wear glasses, Apple has collaborated with Zeiss to develop custom optical inserts. These inserts magnetically attach to the lenses, ensuring a seamless integration for users who require corrective eyewear. Additionally, the headset incorporates an external battery, boasting an impressive two-hour lifespan. To facilitate convenient usage, the battery can be connected through a supple woven cable, allowing it to be effortlessly carried in a pocket. Alternatively, users can choose to connect the headset to an external power source for uninterrupted usage throughout the day.

Apple proudly declares that the display of their headset offers an unparalleled level of sharpness, promising an extraordinary visual experience. With the capability to deliver stunning 4K video content, users can expect to be fully immersed in their virtual reality endeavors. The system uses an M2, but it also includes a new chip called the R1.

Apple ensures that its forthcoming headset provides a seamless integration with your surroundings, eliminating any sense of isolation. With the implementation of a system called EyeSight, the headset accurately portrays your eyes within the virtual environment. In instances where you are fully immersed in virtual reality, the headset intelligently conceals your eyes with a luminous screen, indicating your unavailability. Moreover, this innovative device generates a remarkably lifelike digital representation of yourself, known as a “persona,” achieved through advanced facial scanning techniques. While the headset offers a passthrough video feature, enabling users to perceive the real world in vibrant color, it also empowers individuals to overlay three-dimensional objects onto their physical surroundings. For instance, one can effortlessly extract objects from a message thread and project.

Video Tiles

When engaging in remote conversations, individuals have the option to utilize spatial audio, enabling the arrangement of FaceTime participants as “video tiles” within a virtual space. Additionally, an immersive experience can be achieved through the employment of a 3D camera, capturing and subsequently reliving 180-degree videos while wearing the headset. Apple further emphasizes the inclusion of TV and Arcade content, including esteemed offerings from Disney, to enhance the overall experience of using the headset.
