Cybertruck’s enormous Windshield Wiper takes the internet by storm.

Cybertruck's Windshield Wiper

Lew Later reacts to the comically huge size of the wiper after the controversial windshield wiper design comes out.

A new drone footage has emerged, showcasing the Cybertruck’s enormous windshield wiper in action. Surprisingly, the wiper blade is functional and appears to have been improved, but it still falls short of wiping a significant portion of the passenger side of the windshield.

The video, captured by Brad Sloan above Tesla’s Texas Gigafactory and surfaced by Electrek on Thursday during a wind tunnel test. The video reveals the XL wiper blade starting to move at the 13:42 mark, with a considerable reach across most of the windshield. It could be the angle, but it seems to be an enhancement over earlier prototypes.

Lew Later Reacts

Lew Later, a popular YouTuber and tech enthusiast, recently released a reaction video in response to the new Tesla Cybertruck’s windshield wiper. The Cybertruck, which has been highly anticipated in the automobile industry, has garnered attention for its futuristic design and impressive performance capabilities.

In the video, Lew Later initially expresses his excitement for the Cybertruck’s windshield wiper system, which features a single blade that moves back and forth across the windscreen. He notes that this design is a departure from the traditional wiper systems found in most cars, which typically feature two blades that move in opposite directions.

Later goes on to explain that Cybertruck’s wiper system is not only visually appealing but also highly functional. He notes that the single-blade design allows for a wider range of motion and can easily reach all areas of the windscreen, including those difficult-to-reach corners. He also praises the system’s ability to function effectively in both rain and snow, which is a major selling point for those who live in areas with harsh winter weather.

Here’s the catch

What garners attention is that Later points out a potential drawback of Cybertruck’s wiper system. He notes that because the blade is positioned in the centre of the windscreen, it may obstruct the driver’s view slightly, especially when driving at high speeds. Later also suggests that this could be a minor issue for some drivers, but for others, it could be a deal-breaker. He also highlights the huge cost of replacement if the wiper breaks.

Despite this minor drawback, Later is overall impressed with the Cybertruck’s windscreen wiper system. He notes that it is a clear example of Tesla’s innovative approach to design and engineering, and he is excited to see how the Cybertruck performs on the road.

Elon Musk responds on the Windshield Wiper design

In a recent interview, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, shed more light on the design of the Cybertruck’s windscreen wiper system, adding even more context to Lew Later’s reaction video.

According to Musk, the single-blade design of the Cybertruck’s wiper system was a deliberate choice made by Tesla’s design team. They wanted to create a unique and futuristic look for the Cybertruck, while also improving the functionality of the wiper system. The single-blade design allows for better aerodynamics and reduced wind resistance, which can improve the vehicle’s overall performance and efficiency.

Musk also addressed the potential issue of the blade obstructing the driver’s view. Musk expressed his concern regarding its size, stating that it’s the component that bothers him the most. “There is no easy solution,” he added, before proposing that a deployable wiper that could be stored in the front trunk would be ideal. However, Musk acknowledged that such a solution would be complex to implement. He noted that the blade is positioned slightly lower than traditional wiper systems, which helps to mitigate this issue. Tesla has reportedly developed software that adjusts the blade’s speed and position to ensure optimal visibility for the driver.

In response to Lew Later’s observation about the wiper system’s ability to function effectively in snow, Musk confirmed that the Cybertruck’s wiper system is equipped with a heating element. This element melts any snow or ice that may accumulate on the blade. This is a significant advantage for drivers in colder climates, as it can be challenging to keep wiper blades clear of snow and ice.

The design was driven by a desire to create a visually appealing and functional system. However, it is yet to see whether this will enhance the vehicle’s overall performance.
