The new WhatsApp update lets users to Silence calls from unknown contacts.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg introduces “silence unknown callers” feature to WhatsApp to protect users from spam calls.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has introduced an innovative privacy feature known as “Silence Unknown Callers” for WhatsApp, aiming to enhance user control over incoming calls. The feature’s primary objective is to empower consumers by providing them both with better control over their calls and maximize protection against spam and unauthorized calls.

In a recent Facebook post, Mark Zuckerberg highlighted the significance of this new tool, stating, “You can now effortlessly silence incoming calls from unfamiliar contacts on WhatsApp, thereby strengthening your privacy and granting you greater control.”

Moreover, with the implementation of this feature, WhatsApp users gain the ability to automatically mute calls originating from contacts not saved in their phonebook or those lacking proper authorization. This ensures that unwanted and potentially intrusive calls are promptly screened, allowing users to preserve their privacy and maintain a sense of security while using the popular messaging platform.

Silencing unknown callers on WhatsApp will reduce spam calls

With the ‘Silence Unknown Callers’ option, WhatsApp hopes to improve user privacy and give them more control over incoming calls. The user’s phone won’t ring when an unknown caller calls, but the call will still show up in the caller’s call history if it turns out to be an essential call, thanks to the new feature.

The introduction of the ‘Silence Unknown Callers’ feature aligns with Meta’s ongoing commitment to user privacy and data protection. By empowering individuals to filter and silence calls from unverified sources, WhatsApp wants to enhance its position as a platform that prioritizes user control and safeguards against potential privacy breaches.

How to use the feature

The feature’s automatic spam and unauthorized call removal capabilities relieve users of the burden of individually blocking or reporting unwanted callers. Instead, WhatsApp takes the initiative to identify and silence potentially bothersome or suspicious calls, providing users with greater control over their calls.

Users must make sure that their WhatsApp programme is updated to the most recent version in order to utilise this functionality. They can do this by downloading the most recent version from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store, depending on their device type.

The ‘Silence Unknown Callers’ option can be enabled easily. Here is a how:

Launch the WhatsApp app on your smartphone.

The menu symbol is normally located in the top right corner of the screen. Locate it and tap on it.

Then choose “Settings” from the menu’s options.

Find the “Privacy” section in the Settings menu and tap it.

When you get to the “Calls” area, scroll down.

Now choose to enable the ‘Silence Unknown Callers’ feature in the Calls section. To turn it on, turn the switch.

There’s more to come

Additionally, WhatsApp’s parent company, Meta, has been routinely releasing upgrades for the programme and adding new features. Along with the ‘Silence Unknown Callers’ feature, WhatsApp now offers a Chat Lock feature, the ability to change sent messages within a 15-minute time limit, and the ability to edit sent messages in general, improving user experience and security.

By keeping an eye out for these updates and utilising the most recent features that WhatsApp has to offer, you can stay informed and get the most out of your usage of the service.
