Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5

Samsung’s upcoming foldable flagship sparks high expectations among tech enthusiasts

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip range has become incredibly popular due to its unique folding design, impressive specifications, and reasonable price point. Fans of the series will be eagerly anticipating the release of the next model, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5. In this article, we have compiled a wishlist of features we would like to see in the upcoming device.

In addition to our own desires, there are also rumours circulating about what the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 could potentially offer. We have included information on these rumours, as well as possible details on the release date and pricing of the phone.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5: Release date

Considering Samsung’s past release patterns, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is likely to debut on August 9, 2023, which is the second Wednesday of August. This follows the launch dates of its predecessors, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. However, there are reports that Samsung may launch the foldables earlier than usual, in the last week of July.

Assuming the customary two-week waiting period between launch and shipping, consumers can expect to receive the Galaxy Z Flip 5 in mid to late August. As for the price, there is no official confirmation yet, but it is probable that it will be similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 4, which starts at $999.99 / £999 / AU$1,499.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5: Leaked Specs and More

According to recent reports, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 may be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which is similar to the chipset used in the recently released Samsung Galaxy S23 range. The current Galaxy Z Flip 4 uses a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset. But it is likely that the Z Flip 5 will upgrade to the Gen 2 chipset and may even have a Plus version.

Several sources have suggested that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will have a larger cover screen, with some indicating a size of 3.3 or 3.4 inches. Renowned tipsters Ice Universe and Yogesh Brar have both mentioned that the screen size will be 3.4 inches, which is a significant upgrade from the 1.9-inch screen on the previous Galaxy Z Flip 4.

Leaks on Twitter for the Motorola Razr 2023 showed a large cover display that wrapped around the camera lenses, and it has been confirmed by recent Galaxy Z Flip 5 leaks that Samsung’s design will be similar. It seems that the clamshell rivalry will now take place on the cover this year.

There are also rumours that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 will be available in various colours. The colours may include beige, grey, light green, and light pink. It remains to be seen when the device will be officially announced and what other features it will have.

The popular Hinge Design

According to recent leaks, Samsung’s new foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is expected to have a waterdrop hinge design that will significantly reduce the visibility of the seam. This new design is likely to improve the durability and reliability of the device to make it resistant to wear and tear.

Additionally, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is said to come with an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. While Samsung’s current foldable smartphones have an IPX8 rating, which means they can be submerged in up to 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes, an IP68 rating is standard for most flagship smartphones, offering protection against both dust and water ingress.

Despite these reports, a third report suggests that Samsung is still considering whether to certify the Flip 5 and Fold phones with an IP68 rating. It remains to be seen whether this feature gap between foldable and traditional slab smartphones will be closed or if it will further widen the gap between Samsung and its competitors such as Oppo.

In terms of camera specs, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is rumoured to have a pair of 12MP cameras, with the second being ultra-wide, similar to the current model but with upgraded image sensors. This could result in improved image quality.

Finally, reports suggest that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will be available in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage options, just like the Z Flip 4. However, the baseline 128GB variant may stick with its predecessor’s UFS 3.1 specification, while the other two options could benefit from UFS 4.0 speeds.
