Samsung is testing a hinge design for the new Galaxy Z Fold 5.

Samsung is anticipated to release new foldable smartphones with hinge design for Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series.

According to reports, the South Korean tech giant will feature a better hinge design for its forthcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5 smartphone. Samsung has already started testing an enhanced hinge for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 but has set a lower standard than certain competitors, according to a report by ‘The elec‘. According to the source, the business is presently putting the revised hinge design for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 through “final” testing. It will complete the design for the new hinge after the testing is completed. As per the rumours, Samsung may be planning to introduce the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 in the first half of 2023.

What’s special about Samsung’s unique hinge design for the Galaxy Z Fold 5?

The “waterdrop” hinge is the new hinge style for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. Instead of folding at a sharp angle when the phone is closed, the new design flexes the screen inward. The most recent design has many advantages, including a less obvious crease on the display and no gap when the phone is folded.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is also rumoured to be slimmer than its predecessor owing to this unique hinge design. According to the reports, the forthcoming foldable phone would have a thickness of no more than 14mm. The maximum thickness of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is 15.8mm.

Samsung will reportedly begin testing the dependability of this new hinge and display screen the following week. The build will probably be tested for 200,000 and 300,000 folds by the company. According to the article, 200,000 folds will test the display’s “limit” and the new hinge design, while 300,000 folds will be done for general wear and tear. After 200,000 folds, the business hopes to keep around 85% of the phone’s original strength.

Contrasting fold tests performed by several other firms:

The 200,000 figure may seem notable, but it is well below some of Samsung’s latest rivals. At a recent presentation in London, UK, Oppo unveiled the Find N2 Flip, the company’s first flip foldable phone, for the international market. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer claims that the Find N2 and Find N2 Flip will fold 400,000 times. This amount exceeds what Samsung commits by double.

Users will eventually learn how well these devices actually hold up. Samsung, although the dominant player in the foldable market, seems to be falling behind.
